Meaningful first steps
These are the initiatives we already started with to mark the beginning of a long-term commitment to supporting children and schools in the community.
While still small in scale, each project has contributed to learning, connection, and tangible support.

Fundraiser to cover pre-school fees
After having volunteered at a pre-school in Vrygrond, I wanted to help with more than just being present: I wanted to support the families to ensure education. The fee for one kid was at R600 (about 30€) for a month at that time which is a lot of money to cover for a family.
So I decided to start a fundraiser and collect as much money as possible in order to cover the fees for a month or two for a few kids.
We ended up covering 2 months of fees for 3 kids from disadvantaged families. The fee was paid to the school directly, so the family didn’t have to pay for those months.
Supported Kids
We were able to cover the fees for Ezra, Sally and Perfect.

Creative Workshop + Fundraiser Program
I organised and facilitated a painting workshop with the children, with the aim of selling their artworks to fund winter carpets for the preschool.
While the artworks did not sell during this first attempt, the project provided valuable insight into what is needed to successfully run ethical, transparent fundraising initiatives in the future. The children were able to explore creativity freely, and the school gained visibility through the project.
We are aiming to sell the paintings at a local event and support the Pre-School with the collected money.
Workshop
I brought lots of paint and supplies from Germany to then organise a morning of free painting with the kids.
